About Us

The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT)

The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT) was founded in 1985 to promote advanced medical and scientific research into the causes and treatment of cancer. Our research includes the management of rare cancer types not covered by other charities including Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, gynaecological, testicular, uveal melanoma, prostate, bladder, stomach and kidney cancers.

We focus our research at two major cancer hospitals: Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Cancer Centre (Charing Cross & Hammersmith Hospitals), giving us access to a large population of patients cared for by expert clinicians. We provide funding directly to researchers with a focus on understanding why and how cancers develop, finding better ways of monitoring and detecting cancers, and testing new treatments.

Through our research we are able to improve outcomes and sometimes cure cancers that were previously not easily treatable, reduce the need for chemotherapy and offer treatments with less side effects. We have also helped to develop a new generation of diagnostic tests and tools (biomarkers) to aid decision making and enable patients to get the right treatment at the right time.

We aim to help patients to live longer, improve their quality of life, and better manage their treatment.
